HALLOWEEN It's the 31st of October, you know what that means? Yep, it's Halloween! And it's something around 5 million Australians are celebrating. Halloween means pumpkins, kids on pumpkins, people in boats made of pumpkins, tricks, treats, and of course costumes. While that sounds like a lot of people, Halloween is way bigger in the US with around 70 percent of Americans celebrating the holiday, and spending up to $700 million US dollars on pet costumes alone. But where does this dress up idea come from? Halloween has a mysterious beginning but most people agree it started with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain which was celebrated in parts of Europe and marked the end of Autumn and the Celtic new year. It was believed that this was when the gates between the living and the dead would open. So to ward off any spooky spirits, people would light bonfires, leave offerings of food, and disguise themselves as ghosts to blend in. Later on in Europe there was a Christian holiday called All Hallows eve, on October 31st, which was around the same time as Samhain and they mixed together to form Halloween. And now cats dogs and meerkats along with a lot of humans get around this spooky holiday. NAPLAN RESULTS NAPLAN results are out! And there's some good news. But it's all in good fun! The idea for the wedding came after Peggie Weggie Woo got really sick, and her owner wanted to raise money for a local community vet charity. It was a big event, with people arriving in fancy limousines donning their very best Territory formal attire.
