From Ebola and COVID-19 to vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, rumours and public distrust, this conversation explores why public health cannot be understood as a medical issue alone. When communities do not trust institutions, even life-saving interventions can be rejected. During an outbreak, people respond not only to science, but also to history, fear, religion, family networks, local experience and the way authorities communicate.
