Here's how the ecosystem works: • A PDO (Public Data Office) sets up a broadband connection and provides public Wi-Fi access. • A PDOA (Public Data Office Aggregator) helps PDOs with onboarding, routers, technical setup, and network management. • Multiple PM-WANI compatible apps allow users to discover nearby Wi-Fi hotspots, recharge, and connect. There is no single government app for this service. • Users can purchase affordable internet packs and access high-speed Wi-Fi through these hotspots, while PDOs earn revenue from customer usage. Unfortunately, scammers have started targeting people interested in becoming PDOs. Here's the common trick: • After registering on the official PM-WANI portal, applicants receive emails claiming that router installation or activation fees must be paid. • These emails often appear genuine but are sent from fake domains that closely resemble official government websites. • Victims end up transferring money for installations that never happen.
