It was designed for 100 megatons. They tested it at half power, and the flash was seen 1,000 kilometres away. This film asks one question: what if the full 100-megaton design went off over Midtown Manhattan, on an ordinary October morning? 9:31 AM. Nine miles above Bryant Park, a fireball 8.3 miles wide. On Liberty Island, tourists turn toward the light. On the New Jersey Turnpike, 29 miles away, a truck driver and a stranger take cover behind his trailer as the blast arrives. In an apple orchard 45 miles north, Rosa and Tomas feel the heat on their backs. From an airliner seven miles up, the cloud climbs five times higher. Then the fires. Then the long hour after. No narrator, no explanation. Only the people who were there, mile by mile. A hypothetical scenario. The bomb design is real; everything else is fiction. Effects estimated with NUKEMAP 2.76 (Alex Wellerstein) and Glasstone and Dolan, The Effects of Nuclear Weapons (1977). A cinematic AI film made with Seedance 2.5 on Higgsfield, edited by hand in Premiere Pro. Music: "BΓ€ring", "Run", "Return" and "Oblivion" - Hampus Naeselius (Epidemic Sound) Watch next: DEFCON 1 | The Last 31 Minutes Before Nuclear Impact: https://youtu.be/3eN1G7EgKS8 DEFCON 1 PART II | The First 60 Minutes After Nuclear Impact: https://youtu.be/N7PhLnlxRC4 How far from Midtown are you right now, and what would you do in the first minute?
