Did you know this in Murder Drones? A couple days ago the 5th chapter of the murder drones comic released. Is it any good? Let me explain. So this chapter adapts Episode 7 Mass Destruction from the show. We learn some backstory about the absolute solver, meet Uzi’s Mom Nori, see the death of Doll and Cyn takes off her Tessa disguise. Let’s start off with the things i liked. As standard with the rest of the series the front cover art is great. This chapter feels more dialogue heavy than the rest, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. I also think this chapter was printed quite early in advance. Like i got my copy within 3 days, when usually it would take a week or more. However i think this is definitely one of the weakest chapters so far of the comic, which sucks because there’s only one more left. First up it’s difficult to follow it along. The show itself has problems with pacing but the comic is a trillion times worse, the scenes are just stitched together with no buildup. In my opinion the art itself looks a bit sloppier than previous issues. The way the characters faces look and the individual lineart looks a bit rushed. If you compare J in the panel to J on the front cover of the next chapter she looks way worse. A bunch of fan favourite scenes are either removed are toned down. Uzi’s reflection on Tessa’s sword or N’s reflection on her helmet are gone. The flashback sequence where N sees the disassembly drones destroying earth is reduced to a single panel. Doll’s death is way less impactful, there’s less gore too. The worst has to be the reveal of Cyn. In the episode it’s one of my favourite scenes of the entire show. Tessa getting beheaded and Cyn revealing that she’s snuck up on them, it’s cinema. In the comic it’s terrible, cyn doesn’t fight uzi and N nor does she eat Doll’s core. She just runs away immediately. I also think after the release of the Meet J video it really illustrates how bad the comic is. In an alternate reality we could’ve gotten a comic series telling new adventures about other disassembly drones or prequel stories. What a missed opportunity. So what do you think? Have you read the comic yet?
