How to stop a panic attack is something many people search for when intense fear, racing thoughts, rapid breathing, or physical symptoms suddenly take over. In this video, I'll show you 3 practical things to do during a panic attack to help you respond differently and give your nervous system time to settle. A panic attack can cause intense fear along with physical symptoms such as a racing heart, dizziness, trembling, difficulty breathing, chest discomfort, and a feeling of losing control. Try this three-step approach: 1. NAME IT ā€œThis is panic. It will pass.ā€ 2. SLOW YOUR BREATH Use gentle, comfortable breathing rather than forcing large breaths. A slower, controlled breathing pattern can be useful when anxiety and panic increase. 3. GROUND YOURSELF Shift your attention away from monitoring every physical sensation and toward what you can see, hear, and physically feel around you. Grounding and focusing attention can help you feel more in control during panic. The goal isn't necessarily to make the panic disappear immediately. The goal is to stop escalating the fear and allow the panic response to pass. If you experience recurrent or unexpected panic attacks, or panic is interfering with your daily life, consider talking with a qualified healthcare or mental-health professional. Panic disorder is treatable, and CBT is a well-supported treatment approach. Important: New, severe, or unexplained symptoms should not automatically be assumed to be a panic attack. Seek appropriate medical evaluation when needed. I’m Daniel from The Quiet Mind Counseling.
