1980 年，政大金旋獎從校內的民歌比賽出發，不僅見證了台灣樂壇 70 年代民歌時期 的最後一抹風采、 80 年代解嚴前的陣痛與過度、也歷經了 90 年代後的音樂大爆發。 2002 年，本獎項成為校際性音樂競賽後，正式的參與了台灣樂壇的演變，每屆都湧進 上千位參賽者、囊括了從民歌、流行、聲樂、搖滾、嘻哈、爵士到阿卡貝拉等無數曲風， 也藉由業界評審的專業挑選出新時代的好音樂、好聲音，並迅速於十年間成為校園音樂人 的夢想舞台、正式成為台灣新生代音樂人的重要推手之一，包含張雨生、陳綺貞、盧廣仲 、閃靈樂團與蘇打綠等知名音樂人，都曾在這唱出自己的歌。 在這四十多年間，因為毫無主流與否的差異和商業考量的壓力，這裡不僅孕育了無數個撼 動台灣…
