區慈濟志工於莫拉克風災後第六天(8/13)，遠赴嘉義地區協助賑災。這次路線分三個大區域；布袋、太保和東石，又兵分三十五個路線同時進行。今天賑災主要是訪視發放部分，深入災區膚慰災民，針對民眾需求，確實做居家關懷。 早上七點多，志工陸續抵達嘉義聯絡處。出發前，負責總務的劉雪華師姊，再次細心叮嚀，請大家居家關懷時，民眾物資的需求，要問清楚並詳細記載，如衣服尺寸，尿布大小等等，讓災民拿到物資的感受，是確實欠缺急迫需要的。發放物資要很細心，不要讓民眾的需求落空。另外，還有「生活包」，裡面有生活基本用品，還有證嚴上人滿滿的愛，很方便又實用。 當車子抵達布袋鎮，行進鄉間小路，沿途可看到家家戶戶在清理家園，將泡水的傢俱拿到戶外曝曬，衣服…
