北陸新幹線が開業してから10年超が経過するが、不便となったのが新潟県内の信越本線沿線である。特急しらゆき号があるが、金沢まで再び延伸すればどうなるのか考察する。 かつては特急「北越」として新潟駅と金沢駅を列車1本で結ばれていた。しかしながら、北陸新幹線が開業したことで上越妙高駅での乗換が必要になった。 運賃が上がったものの、所要時間の短縮効果は小さい。 特急「しらゆき」を上越妙高行ではなく、富山・金沢方面へ延長運転させればかつての便利な鉄道網が復活する。 近年は信越本線の高速化、ミニ新幹線化の構想があるが、特急列車の復活が最も効果が高いかもしれない。 第三セクターとなった旧北陸本線の区間を通るが、並行在来線としてはむしろ旅客収…
