9月1日是莘莘學子的開學日，但老一輩來說，特別是沙田、筲箕灣等的居民，卻是一個難以忘懷的日子，因為1962年今日，颱風「溫黛」就在這天正面吹襲香港。作為戰後吹襲香港最兇猛的颱風，當年「溫黛」創下的3項紀錄，至今未能打破：包括每小時最高平均風速（133公里）、最高陣風（每小時259公里）、最低瞬時海平面氣壓（953.2百帕），威力媲美2017年的「天鴿」及2018年的「山竹」，同為香港歷史上最具破壞力的颱風之一。
