Jharkhand Student Protest Intensifies as Recruitment Row Sparks Hunger Strike and Assembly March Call A student-led agitation in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations has intensified, with protesters escalating their movement through hunger strikes and announcing a Tiranga March and a planned gherao of the State Assembly. The protests, centred in Ranchi, have entered their second week and are being led by aspirants demanding action over alleged paper leaks, delays in recruitment and irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The protesters are demanding cancellation of the disputed examinations, a court-monitored or CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities, and a transparent recruitment process. Several students have also begun an indefinite hunger strike, arguing that repeated examination controversies have jeopardised the careers of thousands of aspirants who have spent years preparing for government jobs. Some protest leaders have even demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accusing the state government of failing to restore confidence in the recruitment system. The Jharkhand government has indicated its willingness to hold talks with student representatives. However, the protesters have insisted that any discussions should be conducted publicly in the presence of the media to ensure transparency. Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) has widened its probe into the alleged recruitment scam, arresting several more individuals as part of the ongoing investigation. The movement has also drawn political attention beyond Jharkhand. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended moral support to the protesting students and urged the state government to address their concerns at the earliest. Student groups say the agitation will continue until concrete action is taken on their demands. The protest comes amid growing nationwide concern over examination integrity following a series of recruitment and paper leak controversies across India. Aspirants argue that repeated cancellations, delays and allegations of malpractice have eroded trust in the public recruitment system, making transparency and accountability their primary demand.
