Robots Take to Warsaw Streets, Demand Protection for Human Jobs Warsaw witnessed an unusual demonstration as around 30 robots marched outside Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs, carrying flags and broadcasting slogans demanding stronger regulation of artificial intelligence. The September protest immediately attracted international attention, with videos showing humanoid and wheeled robots moving in circles while messages such as “Defend workplaces,” “Time for rules” and “Don’t wait, regulate” played through speakers. The robots had not independently organised the demonstration. It was a carefully planned campaign by Democratism, an initiative seeking greater public discussion about how AI and automation could transform employment. Organisers said the machines were used to make the warning more powerful: robots are no longer distant science fiction and could increasingly perform both physical and cognitive work currently handled by people. They called for regulations that would encourage technological progress while protecting workers from sudden displacement. Polish Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski met organiser Grzegorz Kulis during the event. Gawkowski acknowledged that rapidly developing humanoid machines connected to uncontrolled AI systems could create serious social and economic challenges. The demonstration presented a striking contradiction—robots appeared to protest against the very automation they represent. That irony helped the campaign spread across social media and turned an otherwise technical policy debate into a visually memorable event. Supporters argue that AI can improve productivity, perform dangerous tasks and generate new industries. However, they want governments to establish clear accountability, safety standards and worker-transition policies before humanoid robots become common in offices, factories and public spaces. Warsaw’s robot march was ultimately a human-organised performance, but its message was real: societies must decide how AI will serve people before automation begins reshaping employment on a much larger scale.
