India Ranks No. 1 as Birthplace of America’s Immigrant Billionaires India has emerged as the leading birthplace of immigrant billionaires living in the United States, according to Forbes’ 2026 ranking of America’s richest immigrants. The list includes 144 foreign-born US billionaires originating from 45 countries. Together, they control an estimated $2.2 trillion in wealth. India occupies the top position with 19 billionaires, increasing sharply from 12 in the previous year. Israel and Taiwan share second place with 11 billionaire immigrants each, followed by China with nine and Canada with eight. However, the ranking does not mean India has more billionaires than the United States. It specifically compares the birthplaces of foreign-born billionaires who later became American citizens. Venture capitalist and Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla leads the India-linked group with an estimated fortune of $13.9 billion when the list was prepared. He is followed by Zscaler founder Jay Chaudhry at $8.2 billion, IndiGo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal at $5.6 billion and technology entrepreneur Romesh Wadhwani at $5.5 billion. Other prominent names include early Google investor Kavitark Ram Shriram, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Palo Alto Networks chief executive Nikesh Arora. New entrants include Hemant Taneja, Shyam Sankar and Astera Labs co-founders Sanjay Gajendra and Jitendra Mohan. The combined wealth of the 19 India-linked billionaires was estimated at nearly $70 billion. Many originally travelled to America for higher education before building companies in technology, cybersecurity, aviation, artificial intelligence, finance and semiconductors. The ranking is being celebrated by Indians online as evidence of the country’s growing influence within American business and innovation.
