This is the Castleford Viaduct on the Castleford to Garfoth railway line. Opening on the 8th April 1878 the viaduct spanned the River Aire allowing trains to carry heavy freight, mainly coal from the local collieries such as Swillington, Astley, and Allerton Bywater.
